Certainly the original has a more coherent narrative focus the wasteland also 'feels' more desolate and mysterious, while the Master is unequivocally the most fascinating creature I've ever encountered in a video game. The excessive dark humor and absurdities don't necessarily devalue the experience for me, if anything it is a matter of mood because I find myself alternately attracted to both with equal enthusiasm. I will always be fond of Fallout 2, but will concede that the original is ultimately the superior game overall.
